Buying advice
How Much Does SEO Cost in St Helens in 2026?
It is the question I get asked before any other, and most answers you will find online are deliberately vague. So here is a straight one.
The short answer
SEO in St Helens costs between £500 and £1,350 a month for most small businesses. My own pricing starts at £500 a month for eight hours of work, £850 for fourteen and £1,350 for twenty two. Those numbers are on my site rather than behind a phone call, because the amount of guessing involved in this industry is ridiculous.
If somebody quotes you under £300 a month, ask them how many hours that buys. The answer is usually three or four, and three hours a month cannot move a competitive local search result.
Why it is priced in hours and not packages
A package called Bronze, Silver or Gold tells you nothing. It sounds like a product, but SEO is not a product, it is somebody spending time on your site. So the only honest way to price it is by how many hours you are actually buying.
That also protects you. When the work is defined in hours, a slow month is visible. When it is defined as Silver, it is not.
What those hours go on
Roughly, and it varies by site:
- Technical fixes. Speed, crawling, indexing, the things stopping Google reading the site properly
- Content. Pages that answer what people actually search for, rather than what a business wants to say about itself
- Local signals. Google Business Profile, reviews, consistent details across the web
- Links, earned slowly and legitimately
- Reporting, so you can see whether any of it is working
What changes the price
Three things, mostly. How competitive your search terms are, what state the site is already in, and how many locations or services you need to rank for. A single trade in one town is a very different job from a firm covering six towns and twelve services.
How long before it pays for itself
Realistically three to six months before the movement is obvious, longer in competitive sectors. Anybody promising page one in thirty days is either selling ads and calling it SEO, or lying. I would rather lose the job than pretend otherwise.
If you are not sure it is worth it yet
Do not start with a retainer. Start by finding out what is actually wrong. I do a fixed £150 audit that gives you a written list of the specific problems on your site, and you can take that list to anybody. Plenty of people read it and fix things themselves, which is fine by me.
